Increase Awareness
November 20
National Adoption Day was celebrated on Nov. 20, 2021. The event was commemorated with a special proclamation signed by Chief Justice G. Richard Bevan.
National Adoption Day is an effort to increase awareness of the children in the nationwide foster care system who are waiting to be adopted. In Idaho, the 2021 proclamation noted there were 117 foster children waiting for a forever home.
This event is typically celebrated in courthouses across the state with adoption hearings, cakes, teddy bears, and photo ops. But the COVID-19 pandemic again limited those gatherings. In the Fourth Judicial District, for example, adoption hearings still took place but were held over Zoom. In Ada County, new families were able to visit the trial court administrator’s office for cakes and other gifts.
